Tormey Woods - Baritone Opera Singer

British baritone Tormey Woods is based in Avignon. A member of the Opéra National de Montpellier’s young artists programme from 2014 to 2022, and trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, he is known for an easy stage presence and a vivid physicality drawn from his background in theatre, improvisation and dance.

Roles include Il Re (La bella dormente nel bosco), Falke (Die Fledermaus), Grabuge (Geneviève de Brabant) and the Bench (L’Enfant et les sortilèges) at Opéra National de Montpellier; the title role in Don Giovanni (Saluzzo Opera Academy); Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro (Berlin Opera Academy); and Hermann and Schlémil in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (PBA Charleroi). At the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence he sang Un Sacrifié in the premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Le Monstre du Labyrinthe, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.

He has appeared with Clonter Opera and British Youth Opera, and has sung under conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Ennio Morricone, Simon Halsey, Peter Leonard and Peter Robinson. He studies with Jean-Paul Fouchécourt.
